Abi Alice was born in Sydney, Australia and has lived and worked in Sydney, London and Milan. Her art and design studio has been based in London since 2009. Much of her work develops from her frequent international travel during which she takes photographs, conducts research and engages in collaborative projects.
Alice's work extends across a range of disciplines, from painting, drawing, photography and sculpture to product and jewellery design. Alice's multi-disciplinary approach defies the traditional boundaries between art forms. Although her work moves between different mediums, her interest in colour, materials, nature, geometry and mathematics, and her focus on arriving at beauty, are the unifying elements in her practice.
Alice has had a long-standing collaboration with the renowned Italian design Company, Alessi, located in northern Italy's lake district. She has designed many products for their catalogue since 2006. Alice approaches design from an artistic point of view. In many instances her abstract paintings are the foundation for her product design.
Alice has both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in fine art. Initially majoring in drawing and gold- and silver-smithing, she later completed a Masters degree in which she pursued painting and photography. Alice's work is represented in public and private collections around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
